Conference "The Phenomenon of Graffiti in Russia"

The Street Art Research Institute with the PERMM Museum held the first conference in Russia dedicated to graffiti on April 12-13.

The conference "The Phenomenon of Graffiti in Russia" was devoted to describing the current problems of russian graffiti as an anthropological, cultural, social and urban phenomenon.

The conference "The Phenomenon of Graffiti in Russia" was initiated in order to come closer to describing this multifaceted phenomenon, at the center of which is a person living in a modern city.

Cultural and art historians, sociologists and philosophers, street art researchers and artists were the speakers of the conference.

The reports were presented in several sections:
  • "Graffiti and Culture",
  • "Graffiti, Vandalism and the Law",
  • "Graffiti and Human",
  • "Graffiti and the City",
  • "Graffiti and Art".
The announced speakers included Misha Most, Anna Nistratova, Alina Zorya, Maria Weber, Natalia Kash, Nikita Klassen, Irina Simonova, Olesya Blinova and others. Conference consisted of more than 20 lectures and three panel discussions.
