Collection of materials from the first open scientific conference of street art researchers

The collection includes materials from the first open scientific conference of street art researchers, which was held on July 8-9, 2022 as part of the III Street Art Forum. The conference was devoted to the specifics of street art development in the regions of Russia, the experience of interaction between institutions and street artists, as well as interdisciplinary research in the field of street art.

The conference consisted of three sections: "Street art and institutions", "Street art and interdisciplinary research" and "Local scenarios for the development of street art in Russian cities". The sections in the collection look accordingly.

In the "Street Art and Institutions" section, you can study the presentation of the "Street Art Storage" project in St. Petersburg by Alina Zorya, learn the history of the collection of works by street artists from the Ruarts Foundation by Katrin Borisov, and read an essay by MMOMA curator Alexey Maslyaev and deputy director of the Central Park of Culture and Leisure of St. Petersburg Marina Berezhnaya on the representation of street art in the "white cube".

The articles presented in the "Street Art and Interdisciplinary Research" section are devoted to anti-style, gender characteristics of graffiti, the communicative possibilities of street art and the reasons for its emergence. Their authors of texts are Olga Kruzhkova, Irina Vorobyova, Yulia Kuzovenkova, Vladlena Milkina, Anton Valiev.

The "Local Scenarios for the Development of Street Art" section will allow you to learn details about the organization of the "One for All" festival in Bratsk from Anna Andreeva and Grigory Sharov. Anna Nistratova talks about the development of street art in Nizhny Novgorod, Pavel Shugurov — in Vladivostok, Anton Polsky — in Moscow during the pandemic.

The collection was published by the Institute for Street Art Research with the support of the INLOCO Initiative and is provided with information about the authors of the articles, illustrations and a detailed bibliography. The publication is addressed to street art researchers and a wide range of readers.

The Institute for Street Art Research was founded in 2017 in St. Petersburg. The Institute is engaged in scientific activities in the field of street art, provides expert support in the field of public art, supports and initiates the publication of books dedicated to street art.
